Guardians of the Galaxy
We need to clear the air for moment. At this point in time, all of my thoughts and feelings toward the Marvel Movies from The Avengers until Captain America: Winter Soldier is now in the trash. Burnt to a crisp then urinated upon, and then after I woke up from a drunken stupor I put up a post of the new movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. If you haven’t seen it yet, please continue at your own risk.
I went to the movie with high expectations, the week before I had blazed through my collection of the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy run and started on the second read through of all the current issues of Bendis’ Guardians of the Galaxy. (Which if you haven’t read it. Through your comp or tablet out the window, and go find some copies, quit your job and start reading.). So, high expectations. I mean super high. How high is the moon? Higher. The other movies I had high expectations too but not to this extent. The movie itself hit me in a different tone, unlike going to see Iron-Man, because with Iron-Man I knew what I was going to get, lots of witty banter and tons of action. With Guardians of the Galaxy, I honestly didn’t know what I was going to expect. I knew it had to be some sort of origin story, the all come together in the end for the greater good. Out of any origin story portrayed in a movie, this one was very well done. Now I’m going to go through some point of the movie, hopefully won’t spoil things for you, and if not…you had chances to see the movie by now, nerdiot.
So like any origins story there is going to be the scenes where the heroes meet up. We open the movie of course to Chris Pratt’s character, Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord. Who? We open to a young Quill at the hospital to his dying mother. Then he runs away and gets captured by aliens. Then moves toward one of the best opening scenes I’ve ever seen in any movie. Peter Quill now older is on a desolate planet looking for treasure. Star-Lord is discovered by soldiers and escapes with treasure to another planet where he meets up with Gamora (Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy) after his deal is cancelled with a seller. She steals his treasure a chase ensues until we meet up with the infamous Rocket Raccoon (Not a raccoon) and Groot (I am Groot.), after a huge public disturbance they get captured by the Nova corps (a sneak peek to Nova!). They get transported to a prison, Rocket brags about his past successful prison escapes and Groot exclaims “I am Groot.”. From my past viewing experiences in movies, when there is a scene where the main characters are in a prison and have to escape, it usually takes a quarter of the movie. In this movie it takes maybe 15 minutes at most to get through it. At the prison they end up meeting Drax (the Destroyer) and now we have our Guardians. I’m not going through the rest of the movie because why should it? Go see it, Nerd!
The high expectations I mentioned earlier were met and then some. They went over my expectations then took it to a nice seafood dinner and called the next morning. I loved this movie. If you’re familiar with the series or just new to the Marvel experience I guarantee you’ll love this movie. Or your money back. I actually won’t give you any money back but you can leave the nasty comments below. Now the question is, how is this going to fit into the current Marvel Universe? We have an idea of how the Infinity Stones will play in the next movies, especially with Avengers 2 and 3. Plus in Guardians we get to see Thanos in his full glory. Who is Thanos? For those who don’t have clue he was the smiling face at the end of Avengers. We get a full scene with the Mad Titan, sitting upon his thrown of stone s he awaits the stones to fill his gauntlet. Just fills the scene with his power, just amazing. Seriously though, this movie is now my new favorite Marvel movie, it tops the greatness of all the Marvel movies that have been made so far. The after credits scene was the cherry on top. One of the best cameos I’ve seen in the Marvel Universe, and a much needed revival of a once beloved character in the Marvel Universe and one of my favorite characters in comic book history. I won’t spoil it, so go see it.
