Korean Actress Claudia Kim Confirmed for ‘Avengers 2′
Claudia Kim (aka. Kim Soo-hyun; aka. Kim Soo-Hyeon; aka. 김수현) has been cast in the new upcoming Avengers movie, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. KDrama Stars reported earlier this year that Kim had been cast for the part, and they were just waiting for an official announcement by Marvel before confirming anything. Last week Kim took to Twitter to let her fans know that the rumors were true.
On the topic she had these words to share: “After a long wait, I’m so happy to be back with great news. I have a lot to do ahead of me, but for now, the words ‘Welcome to the Marvel Universe’ are amazing and kind of overwhelming. I was a fan of Marvel Comics, and if you really like something it looks like fate can make it happen.”
Kim is most well known for her role on various Kdrama series, including most recently 7th Grade Civil Servant. Besides the various awards she has received for acting Kim also won the 2005 Korea-China Supermodel Contest.
So far Marvel officials haven’t had too much to say on the topic. An unnamed representative interviewing with Korean news agency OSEN said “It would be a spoiler, so we can’t tell you which character Kim Soo Hyung will play. Marvel always prohibits telling too much about the story. Her character is already decided and the scene is already written so we cast Kim Soo Hyun, but we can’t let you know about her character. We only can say that her character is a substantial supporting role.”
However earlier reports with a staff member that was involved with Kim’s casting has said “Kim Soo Hyun is to star as a partner of Iron Man Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., as a doctor.” At the moment many have speculated that she will be helping Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) out in the middle of the movie, and is expected to have many major scenes in the movie. However, Twitch Film has reported that Kim may be playing a villain in the movie. Of course it’s all speculation at the moment until Marvel releases an official synopsis.
Many actresses had auditioned for the role, but it wasn’t until the casting director and Joss Whedon visited Korea that Kim was chosen. A staff member at the final audition stated “The Avengers 2 team wanted somebody who could speak fluent English, and Kim Soo Hyun fit that bill the best.” The importance of her character has yet to be seen, but I look forward to seeing her on her first big screen production. And what better way to make the transition from TV to movies than through Marvel Entertainment.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters May 1st, 2015.
